KANSAS CITY KCATA KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension (2026)

As work was beginning to conclude on the Main Street Extension, the KC Streetcar Authority began working to further extend the alignment North to the Berkley Riverfront area. The Riverfront Extension opened to the public on May 18, 2026, linking the expanded service north to the bustling riverfront and the new CPKC Stadium. CPKC Stadium is home of the KC Current NWLS soccer team and will also be used for multiple 2026 North America World Cup matches so the new service will be in high demand. While the new extension adds less than a mile of service, the recreational and housing amenities now within a free streetcar ride are greatly expanded. These include multiple pedestrian and biking paths, sand volleyball courts, natural wetlands, dog parks, a beer garden, and the new riverfront town square development just outside the CPKC Stadium.

B&C Transit Inc. developed the detailed train control designs for two more streetcar stops, including over the Grand Boulevard Bridge, and successfully tested and cut the system into service. B&C Transit Inc.’s experience with the recent expansion south to UMKC helped ensure rapid development of the new extension equipment as well as maintain overall system operation with minimal disruption to existing service.
